Henwood & Nxumalo has an Environmental Services and Management division comprising a team of specialists which include environmental scientists, planners and consultants. Started his career in the public sector after completing his BSc (Civ Eng) Degree at the University of Natal in He has spent the balance of his career in the private sector providing consulting services mainly in the fields of infrastructure planning, policy development, design and construction management. Spent 9 years in earthmoving plant management in the public sector before he moved to the private sector where he developed his knowledge and experience further in training, construction and finally consulting. The projects have included road infrastructure, pipelines, sanitation and fire protection systems but also public private partnerships (PPP) relating to plant fleet management. After obtaining her Diploma in Environmental Health at the University of Swaziland and then a Diploma in Public Health Engineering from the University of Mauritius, she developed her environmental knowledge and experience in the public sector while continuing her studies. She finally obtained her Master of Engineering Science in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of New South Wales in She has over twenty years’ experience in the integrated environmental management sector, and was previously employed by Umgeni Water as a Senior Environmental Scientist. She has also worked with government, non-governmental organizations and external support agencies in a variety of industries and communities. After five years of contracting he joined the civil engineering consulting fraternity where he was employed by Partners in Development Consulting Engineers (PID) until In 2009 he graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in Technology (Urban Engineering) from the Durban University of Technology. Looking for a new challenge, he joined the Henwood & Nxumalo family in 2010 where he has managed the firms design office based in Pietermaritzburg. He has also served as structural and civil engineer for sanitation, reinforced concrete, building construction and renovation projects. His designs include sustainable stormwater drainage, water and sanitation, retaining walls, reinforced concrete and structural steel. His expertise includes contract documentation and project management. Commenced his career in 2006 as a technician with the Department of Housing, Local Government and Traditional Affairs after he obtained his National Diploma in Civil Engineering from the Walter Sisulu University of Technology. In 2009 he obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Technology (Transportation Engineering) from the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University before completing a Bachelor of Science (Honours) Degree in Transportation Planning from the University of Pretoria in He has an array of experience in the Civil Engineering Industry and as such is competent throughout a range of disciplines.
